The collection includes more than 260.000 technical drawings (on transparencies, draughting film, blueprints) relating to the SAME, Lamborghini, Ködel & Böhm, Fahr and DEUTZ-FAHR brands made from 1927 up to the end of the 1980s with the advent of digital systems.
The Historical Archive of technical drawings was inaugurated in 2011 with the aim of showcasing the historical importance of this documentary heritage, not only to SDF but also to the evolution of Italian industry and the agricultural mechanisation of the country.
With this aim in mind and the collaboration and support of the regional Archives Department, the Historical Archives undertook a specific restoration project to preserve the oldest technical drawings subjected to the greatest deterioration.
The collection is a testament to the quality of technical development and origins of products, starting with the first tractor to feature a diesel engine, the 1927 Cassani 40 HP, and progressing to the 1930s designs for ship and aircraft engines and the construction of the first tractor with four-wheel drive in 1952, up to the drawings for the machines produced up until a few decades ago.
The individual drawings relate to assemblies in general and/or overall views, design units, views of engines, tractors, threshers and combine harvesters, cross sections of units and engines, sometimes with an indication of parts codes for assembly or ordering spares, general views with size and track measurements, hole diagrams for attaching implements and particular components. The formats include the UNI A0, A1, A2, A3 and A4 sizes in particular.
The original registers have been retrieved alongside the drawings, with highly important indications for identifying, finding and cataloguing them within the archives.
The title blocks on each drawing are of particular interest, ranging from a simple description without standards for completion to standardised blocks containing essential information for correctly identifying the product (model name, specific name of part illustrated, drawing number with any references to changes made, scale, material, date, draughtsman’s signature).
A good number of drawings were approved personally by Ing. F. Cassani, demonstrating his particular attention to design.
